Classical Music, Opera, Ballet and Jazz in the Hills of Southern Illinois

music fest cover

The 12th annual Southern Illinois Music Festival features three-dozen professional performances throughout the region, from May 28 through June 13. This year’s Festival is titled “William Tell in 1776” and centers on a unique presentation of Rossini’s rarely performed final opera, in 4 performances at the Marion Cultural and Civic Center. We are setting this monumental opera telling the story of a people’s struggle for independence from colonial rule to coincide with Washington crossing the Delaware at the end of 1776. Our Festival also includes three orchestral concerts, featuring music from around 1776, numerous chamber music performances, the New Arts Jazztet, a Young Artists Showcase, and Klassics for Kids and Jive with Jazz events at venues throughout the region. Our Festival is an important factor in the quality of life in Southern Illinois, bringing world-class artists to stay and perform in the region.
