Shawnee National Forest Quarter Launch

Shawnee-Event

The Southernmost Illinois Tourism Bureau and the United States Mint invite you to attend the ceremonial launch of the Shawnee National Forest quarter on February 4, 2016.  The 31st coin in our America the Beautiful Quarters® Program is the first quarter to be released this year.  For more information about this popular program, click here.  The reverse design of this new coin features a close view of Camel Rock with natural vegetation IL quarterin the foreground and a red-tailed hawk soaring in the sky overhead.  The inscriptions are “SHAWNEE,” “ILLINOIS,” “2016” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM” encircle the design. Listen to radio interview, click here.

The launch ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. (CT) on February 4, at the Southeastern Illinois College Deaton Gymnasium (3575 College Road, Harrisburg, IL).  This event is free and open to the public.  All children who attend the event will receive a brand new Shawnee National Forest quarter from the United States Mint.  There will be a coin exchange immediately following the ceremony where coins can be obtained for face value (1-roll minimum / 10-roll maximum, cash only).

The United States Mint will also host a coin forum the evening before the event at the Shawnee National Forest HQ  (50 Hwy 145 South, Harrisburg, IL) on Wednesday, February 3, from 5-6 p.m.  This is a unique opportunity to have access to a U.S. Mint representative who will give you an inside look at the Mint and answer any questions you may have about our programs or products.
